BMW has unveiled the top M70 xDrive version of its flagship i7 electric sedan. The twin-engine power plant of the novelty produces a maximum of 660 hp. and 1100 Nm, acceleration to 100 km/h takes 3.7 seconds.
The new «seven» BMW of the G70 generation debuted a year ago in «hydrocarbon» and electric modifications, the latter is designated by the i7 index. Recall that the BMW i7 xDrive60 is equipped with a twin-engine power plant, the maximum cumulative output of which is 400 kW (544 hp) and 745 Nm, such an electric sedan gains the first “hundred” in 4.7 s, the maximum speed is limited at around 240 km/h.

The sporty BMW i7 M70 xDrive has exactly the same front electric motor as the xDrive60 version, its maximum output is 195 kW (258 hp) and 365 Nm, but on the rear axle there is a new, most powerful electric motor in the BMW range with maximum output of 360 kW (489 hp) and 650 Nm. The maximum cumulative output of the power plant is 485 kW (660 hp) and 1100 Nm, it is available with activated M Launch Control or M Sport Boost modes and allows a heavy sedan (curb weight — 2695 kg) to accelerate to 100 km/h in 3 .7 s, top speed 250 km/h.

For comparison, let's say that the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ electric liftback with the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package has a power of 560 kW (761 hp) and can accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Tesla Model S Plaid even more powerful and faster — 1020 hp and 2.1 s. The American luxury sedan Lucid Air Sapphire boasts over 1200 hp. and accelerates to 100 km/h in about 2 seconds.
In terms of power reserve on a single charge, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive also lags behind competitors: a full charge of a battery with a capacity of 101.7 kWh is enough for a maximum of 560 km of the WLTP cycle, while the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic + can stretch 580 km, Tesla Model S Plaid — 600 km.

A significant part of the press release dedicated to the BMW i7 M70 xDrive is the description of the “vegetable” Max Range mode, which allows you to increase the range by 15-25%. In this mode, the maximum speed is limited to 90 km/h, the climate control and heated/ventilated seats are turned off, and some entertainment functions are limited. The power reserve in the «combat» mode depends on the driving style of the driver, the weather and the track, but, to be honest, it is unlikely that anyone will want to iron the autodromes on such a bulky (overall length — 5391 mm) and heavy sedan or storm at the limit of tire grip serpentines.

Nevertheless, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive has a sporty adaptive air suspension setup with active anti-roll bars, reinforced body, powerful M-brakes, more efficient in terms of download, the aerodynamic tail: the cx coefficient compared to that of the BMW i7 xDrive60 has been increased from 0.24 to 0.26. Externally, the “emka” can be identified by a more aggressive bumper design, 21-inch rims of a special design, the two-tone body color shown in the photographs is available as an option.
