Cheeky Chinese: Tank 300 Raptor

One of the brightest new products of this year on the Russian market is the Chinese Tank 300. The fact that it is positioned not as a crossover, but as an SUV, unlike most other new products from China. We decided to bring this image to the absolute by adding a few details to it.

The Tank brand is very young, because it was created by the Great Wall concern in 2021. The first model was just the hero of this article, which was originally offered under the name Wey — another Chinese brand owned by Great Wall. However, in the future, it was decided to bring the all-terrain vehicle into a separate brand. Last fall, it became officially known that the Chinese concern would sell Tank SUVs in Russia. Car sales started this year, and the first-born was also the Tank 300.

It is positioned as a full-fledged SUV, so many will probably want to modify it precisely in order to improve off-road qualities. In addition to being off-road, the Chinese company also positions the Tank brand as a premium one, so we decided to make the 300 model in the style of the rather expensive Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck, which is famous for its power and off-road capabilities. The Tank presented in the renders received a significantly increased ground clearance and large wheels with off-road tires. A new bumper with additional metal arches appeared on the front, and a wide plastic lining between the lamps at the back.

The SUV is built on the GWM (Great Wall Motors) Tank frame platform and has a double wishbone front suspension and a solid rear axle. The all-wheel drive transmission is made according to the Part-Time principle with a rigid connection of the front axle and a reduction gear, as well as locks for both cross-axle differentials. The SUV is equipped with a single engine — a 2.0 petrol “turbo four”, in the Russian market its return is 220 hp. and 380 Nm of torque (against 227 hp and 387 Nm in the version for the Chinese market). Of course, for a heavier off-road version, a more powerful engine is requested, it could be borrowed from the older Tank 500 model. It is equipped with a V6 3.0 biturbo petrol that produces 299 hp. and 500 Nm in the Russian version.

Today, prices for the Tank 300 SUV in Russia start at 3,699,000 rubles for the basic Adventure package. The top version Premium is estimated at 4,049,000 rubles. All modifications are equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
