Diane Abbott has signaled she is ready to run against Labor in the next election, according to The Telegraph.
Former Shadow Home Secretary, ally of Jeremy Corbyn, said she 'definitely' intends to run again for her seat at Hackney North and Stoke Newington in north London, despite being stripped of her whip over remarks Sir Keir called 'anti-Semitic'. Starmer.
Ms Abbott was suspended from her parliamentary party membership pending investigation after she wrote a «horrifying» letter to The Observer questioning whether Jews experience racism and also faced calls to resign as MP.
“It is true that many types of white people with some differences, such as redheads, may experience this prejudice,” she wrote. “But they are not subject to racism all their lives. In pre-civil rights America, Irish, Jews and travelers were not required to sit at the back of the bus.
“Under apartheid in South Africa, these groups were allowed to vote. And in the midst of slavery, there were no people who appeared white, handcuffed on slave ships.”
No timeline for investigation
Ms. against Labor as an independent candidate.
That means Sir Keir could face challenges from two of Labor's most powerful far-left figures, and former leader Mr Corbyn is poised to run as an independent after being barred from representing the party in the next national vote.
She did not comment further when asked to confirm whether she would run as an independent candidate.
Ms Abbott apologized for the «suffering» caused and tried to disassociate herself from Sunday's comments, claiming they were early draft submitted by mistake. But her claims have been called into question when reports said she sent her letter to The Observer twice and did not try to change the wording.
Sir Keir has so far declined to confirm whether Ms Abbott could be prohibited. from running for the Labor Party in the next election, saying on Monday: «There is an investigation — I have to complete this investigation.»
Labor declined to give a timeline for the investigation, but investigations are known to take months. Rupa Hook, who caused outrage when she called Kwasi Kwarteng «superficially black» at last year's Labor Party conference, was whipped again last month after a five-month suspension.
