Due to the extremely low performance of April 2022, a significant increase in sales of new passenger cars in the Russian market was recorded last month.< /p>
In the Russian Federation last month, 75,622 new passenger cars were sold, according to Avtostat (the agency uses data on state registration of new cars in the country to compile the report, and not information on dealer shipments). The result of April 2023 turned out to be 2.7 times higher compared to the same indicator of the previous year (in April 2022, about 28 thousand cars were sold).

It should be noted that this time Avtostat limited itself to the first dozen of the most popular brands and models (instead of the usual TOP-25), however, the general statistics of the agency still take into account those cars that are imported into the Russian Federation under the parallel import scheme. So such a report is still more in line with current realities than data on shipments of dealers that AEB uses.

Compared to March 2023, car sales increased by 8.2%, so now April has become the most “selling” month of the current year. According to analysts' estimates, Chinese brand cars accounted for 44% of the total number of new cars sold last month (about 33.2 thousand copies). The share of models of Russian brands in total amounted to 35% (26.7 thousand units). All other representatives of the car market together occupied 21% (approximately 15.7 thousand cars).
: Geely TugellaAlthough the “Chinese” in the aggregate and lead the Russian market, tops the list of the most popular brands in the Russian Federation is still Lada. Its market share last month was 33.4%. This is followed by Chery (share – 12.3%), Geely (9.4%) and Haval (9%), and the Korean Kia closes the top five among brands, whose cars occupied 4.5% in the Russian car market. The only brand with negative growth was Hyundai, which lost 4.5% over the year.
Three Lada cars entered the top ten best-selling cars in Russia: Granta still tops the list, but Niva Travel had to give up its second spot to Geely Coolray, which moved up a couple of spots last month. The “classic” SUV Lada Niva Legend also had to move to the floor below, which settled in sixth position in April.

Among the “Chinese” there are mostly modest permutations of already familiar “faces”. Although it is curious that the Geely Tugella crossover moved from 22nd place to tenth in a month. As a result, another SUV of the same brand, Atlas Pro, dropped out of the top ten, which occupied the eighth line in March.
According to Avtostat, 246 914 new passenger cars, this result is 15.4% less than a year earlier. Recall that, according to the agency's base scenario, the sales volume of new “passenger cars” in the Russian Federation at the end of the current year will be about 780 thousand copies (this corresponds to an increase of 25%).
