The new SUV is distinguished by its exterior design and unusual interior solutions. There is only one engine so far.
The premiere of the Hyundai Mufasa crossover, named after the hero of the Disney cartoon “The Lion King”, was held in April at the Shanghai Motor Show. And now preliminary prices have been announced in China, dealers have begun to take orders. At the same time, a separate local name was announced – Musa. As you might guess, the SUV is so far addressed exclusively to the Celestial Empire, production has also been established there. By the way, local specialized media believe that this SUV will replace the local model Hyundai ix35.

Mufasa has a rather original appearance: the cross received vertical headlight blocks, a massive radiator grille and bumpers, embossed stampings in the style of the older Hyundai Tucson on the sides, and the taillights were made in the form of an oval frame. In terms of length (4475 mm) and height (1665 mm), the new SUV is inferior to the supposedly outgoing ix35 (4500 and 1710 mm, respectively), the width (1850 mm) of the cars is the same. The wheelbase of the Hyundai Mufasa is 2680 mm versus 2640 mm for the “thirty-fifth”.

Inside, there are long-familiar scoreboards (combined tidy and multimedia screens, each with a diagonal of 12.3 inches), a two-story central tunnel and a touch-sensitive climate control unit. But there are also unusual solutions: for example, passenger seats can be upholstered in white “leather” (the driver’s seat is dark gray), there is another drawer with a lid on top of the glove compartment, there are also small compartments in the door armrests. In total, 31 places for storage are declared. Trunk volume – 451 liters. The Hyundai Mufasa also has a panoramic roof and adaptive cruise control.

The crossover is offered with a non-alternative gasoline “aspirated” 2.0, which produces 160 hp. and 193 Nm, the motor is combined with a classic six-speed “automatic”. The drive is exclusively front. Later, Mufasa may also get a hybrid version, but there is no information about it yet.

At the moment, the prices of only two complete sets have been named, and their composition has not yet been disclosed: for Mufasa they are asking for about 20,000 – 21,400 dollars. By comparison, the Hyundai ix35 now starts at $18,500. The local Kia Sportage R (not to be confused with the global SUV) “in the base” will cost the same twenty thousand as Mufasa. But some other competitors of non-Chinese brands are cheaper. For example, the Toyota Corolla Cross starts at $18,500, while the new Honda XR-V (a variant of the HR-V) starts at $19,000. If we take comparable models of “celestial” brands, then the price gap will become even greater: Changan CS55 Plus – from $14,800, Chery Tiggo 7 Plus – from $14,200, Geely Boyue Cool – from $14,600. However, the “provisional” price in China often actually means that the real price will be slightly lower.
