The SUV got a one and a half liter “turbo four” from its “cool” brother. At the same time, the models still left the base 1.4T engine, but now you can’t choose a box for the cheapest cross.
In native China, the Geely Binyue compact crossover (in Russia the model is called Coolray) today exists in two guises: there at the same time they sell cars after restylings in 2021 and 2022, and so as not to be confused, the second version – with larger-scale alterations – was given the “surname” Cool (“cool” from English). The company is not going to abandon the SUV without a prefix yet – such a cross has been modernized. The official announcement of the refreshed “just” Binyue was a few days ago, but now sales have started in the Celestial Empire.

The main new thing is under the hood. The Geely Binyue SUV got a 1.5 petrol “turbo four”, which Binyue Cool has been equipped with from the very beginning (the engine is from Aurobay, a joint venture between Geely and Volvo). The motor produces 181 hp. and 290 Nm, it is combined with a seven-speed dual clutch robotic box (7DCT). At the same time, the cheapest “simple” Binyue was left with the previous four-cylinder 1.4 turbo engine with 141 hp. and 235 Nm (Geely's own development), although the box is now impossible to choose: the base engine is paired only with a six-speed “mechanics” (previously you could still choose 6DCT). Drive in any case exclusively front. It should be noted that earlier Binyue also had a “turbo engine” 1.5 (177 hp, 255 Nm) from Volvo, but it was removed from the Chinese range a long time ago (this engine was preserved in the export Coolray).

In the new model year, the SUV also acquired a different grille – it has vertical stripes instead of cells, and an additional “rim” has also disappeared. Cross can still have red decorative stripes on the bumpers and black wheels with red brake calipers. Inside, there is a new upholstery of the seats.

In the next version, climate control and multimedia appear with a 12.3-inch tablet. The top cross is 18-inch wheels, virtual tidy and all-round cameras.
For Binyue with 1.4T they ask for $10,800, a crossover with a new 1.5T engine costs $12,800 – $13,600. For comparison, the price of the more fashionable Geely Binyue Cool ranges from $14,200 to $17,000.
Recall that the original Geely Coolray, that is, the 2018 model, is still presented in Russia. Meanwhile, earlier we were caught with a cross with the “surname” Cool: it is possible that soon there will be news from the Russian office of the brand.
