    Alternative Ford Explorer Gets Timberline Off-Road Version

    The new rendition is more imposing. There are other improvements, but the engine has moved from the standard model.

    In the native States, the Timberline off-road version of the current generation Ford Explorer large crossover appeared two years ago. In China, the public premiere of a similar modification was held only in April of this year, but, we recall, a restyled SUV has been presented there since 2022 – and there are still no cars with this appearance anywhere else. So now the exact prices of Explorer Timberline have been announced in China and sales have started.

    The special cross received the original grille and bumpers, off-road tires and bottom protection. In addition, additional diode strips appeared at the front and towing eyes flaunted. They also increased ground clearance. The body can be painted not only in orange, exclusive to the new version, but also in black, white or silver.

    The Chinese Ford Explorer Timberline is 5066mm long, 3mm longer than the local standard model. The “hardcore” crossover added 19 mm to the height (it became 1797 mm). The width and wheelbase have not changed – 2004 and 3025 mm respectively.

    In the cabin – black and beige combined upholstery (leather + “suede”). Explorer Timberline is available in six or seven seater. The list of standard equipment includes a virtual tidy 12.3 inches, a multimedia system with a 27-inch screen, heated first and second rows, ventilation of the front seats, all-round cameras, adaptive cruise control, auto-braking, lane keeping and monitoring systems “blind” zones.

    The engine has moved from the standard SUV: in China, the Explorer is equipped with a 2.3 petrol turbo engine with 276 hp. (425 Nm), which is paired with a ten-speed “automatic”. The Explorer Timberline is all-wheel drive by default, but it also has a Torsen self-locking rear differential.

    The off-road variant is the most expensive in the range, starting at around $56,500. The base Ford Explorer in China today costs from $43,600, the “sported” version of the ST-Line – from $53,600. this is the brother of Volkswagen ID.4, it is addressed mainly to Europe.
