PGMOL added: “We are appalled by the unfounded and heinous insults directed at Anthony and his family as he attempts to return home from refereeing the UEFA Europa League final. We will continue to give full support to Anthony and his family.»
Mourinho was frustrated by the six warnings his team received and yellow cards for his backroom staff who disagreed with fourth official Michael Oliver all evening. Sevilla's winning penalty in the shoot-out was replayed after the initial save, while Roma were also denied a penalty during the match.

«It was a tense, courageous, flashy game with a referee who appeared to be Spanish,» Mourinho said afterwards. “He was yellow, yellow, yellow all the time,” he said. «We're used to the influence of referees in our games, it's nothing new, but I didn't expect that in a European final.»
In the car park, while the teams were waiting to leave the stadium, Mourinho was seen in a clip of shared Sportitalia criticizing the referee for his bullish decisions. In the video, he can be seen approaching the match officials' van and yelling «Damn shame, man, that's a damn shame» before switching to Italian to further scold Taylor.
He added: «Congratulations, you're a fucking disgrace… Go to hell.»
Jose Mourinho, accused of using offensive language against referee Anthony Taylor Mourinho, was branded an «enemy of football»
In 2005 Mourinho was accused of being an «enemy of football» due to his criticism of referee Anders Frisk. The Swedish referee has been accused of talking to Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard at half-time against Mourinho's Chelsea.
Frisk retired from refereeing after subsequently receiving death threats, with UEFA refereeing committee chairman Volker Roth putting the blame on Mourinho. “We cannot accept the fact that one of our best judges was forced to leave because of this. People like Mourinho are the enemies of football,” he said.
After losing in Europe, Mourinho also opened the way for Paris Saint-Germain this summer after he refused to join Roma. He is set to negotiate with the Roma board of directors about his future and admitted to Sky Italia that he «cannot objectively say that I am staying.»
PSG manager Christophe Galtier noticed that his position is under scrutiny after being knocked out early. Champions League and Mourinho is seen as a potential candidate if there are changes at the Parc des Princes.
«I spoke to the club in December when I had this approach from the Portuguese national team,» Mourinho said in his post-match interviews. “Since then, I have not contacted anyone else. I have a year left on my contract, and the situation is like this.”
