Employment centers in Brussels are asking unemployed Belgians if they are ready to act in pornographic films.
Politicians have called for the question to be removed from the list for job seekers prepared by Actiris, the government agency for employment in the capital.
Actiris can impose fines on people who refuse to work, further fueling the controversy.
“This is simply outrageous,” said Françoise de Smedt, who leads the Workers' Party of Belgium in the Brussels regional parliament.
“This is a public service that should help job seekers find decent jobs. Such an offer is really not worth facing applicants. By the way, this also creates some very uncomfortable moments for Actiris consultants!”
Totally unacceptable
Ms De Smedt said that the “trivialization” of selling one's body is “totally unacceptable on the part of the public service”.
She added: «Does this mean that an artist who is looking for a job who does not agree to appear in a pornographic film can be punished?»
The offending questionnaire asks actors and artists to indicate how much they were would be happy. perform various types of work. The list includes radio plays, short films and pornographic films.
«Not a suggestion, but a question»
Actiris spokesman Romain Adam said the question was «not a suggestion, but a question.»
«Questionnaire serves to determine what interests artists and actors looking for work and where they want to work. The questionnaire should give us an idea about this. And there is nothing wrong with that,” he said.
Mr Adam said that the same questionnaire is used in Flanders and Wallonia, which are other federal regions of Belgium besides Brussels.
< p>He added: “If it is decided at the political level that this issue needs to be removed, we will do it. But at the moment, no such decision has been made.”
