During the generation change, the model became larger. The plug-in hybrid of the novelty has a more capacious battery, so the maximum range when driving only on electric traction has grown to 120 km.
VW Tiguan appeared in the line of the German brand in 2007, and the model reached the first generation change in the fall of 2015 th. The crossover survived the restyling in the summer of 2020, and now the German manufacturer is developing the third generation Tiguan. It is known that the world premiere will take place this fall, but for now, Volkswagen has shared fresh photos of a disguised prototype of the novelty and technical details.

Judging by the pictures, the third-generation Tiguan received smoother body lines compared to the current “boxed” SUV. At the front, you can see a plug along which a luminous strip runs, connecting the headlights. The large and wide grille has a horizontal line pattern, and a horizontally elongated air intake is integrated into the lower part of the front bumper. />
According to the manufacturer, the new crossover has become larger than its predecessor: its overall length is 32 mm longer than that of the current SUV, it is 4551 mm (we are talking about the standard version), and its height has grown by 5 mm to 1640 mm. At the same time, the width and wheelbase of the Tiguan remained the same – 1839 and 2681 mm, respectively.
The trunk volume of the next generation VW Tiguan has increased by 33 liters to 648 liters. The manufacturer also noted that the driver and front passenger got an additional 9 mm of headroom, and for those who are located on the back sofa, this figure is 10 mm. Simpler versions will have a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while top versions will get a 15-inch horizontal tablet.

Under the multimedia screen there is a touch unit for controlling the air conditioning system. The choice of the position of the automatic transmission is assigned to the steering column switch located on the right side. It is already known that HD matrix head optics will be offered for a surcharge of the future model: each headlight includes about 19 thousand LEDs (beam range – 500 meters). Even in the list of options are front seats with heating, ventilation and massage function. Another model is offered adaptive suspension DCC Pro.
Third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan in Europe will continue to be offered with 1.5 and 2 TSI petrol turbo engines .0 liters; the 2.0-liter TDI turbodiesel with 150 hp remained in the range. Also, the crossover is equipped with a rechargeable hybrid, which received another battery with a larger capacity – now 18.5 kWh. As a result, the maximum range when driving on electric power alone has increased to 120 km. The new SUV will be offered in two hybrid versions – with a total power of 204 and 272 hp. (the current Tuareg has only a 245-horsepower version). Information about the “inside” of the all-electric version will appear later.
Sales of the new Volkswagen Tiguan in the old world market will begin in the first quarter of next year, prices will be known later, probably as part of a full official premiere.
