    Donald Trump says he was 'too busy' to return classified documents

    This was the former president's first interview since the historic federal indictment to hand over documents at the request of officials, Trump said, “Because I had boxes , I want to go through the drawers and get all my personal things. I don't want to give it away… yet.”

    He added, “I've been very busy, as you can see.”

    “This is classified information.”

    In its indictment, the Justice Department described evidence, including an audio recording of Trump's meeting in July 2021 with a writer, publisher, and two of his employees, neither of whom had security clearances, in which the former president showed them that it's called a “secret” and “strictly confidential” document.

    “This is classified information … you know, as a president, I could declassify it,” Trump's indictment says. “Now I can't, you know, but it's still a secret.”

    When Bayer insisted on the exchange, Trump said that what he showed to others “was not a document.”
