Chinese «green» crossover for the Russian Federation: Omoda announced the C5 EV

A fully electric version of the SUV already familiar to Russians will be available on the local market in the fourth quarter of this year.

About a year ago, Chery announced that a new sub-brand Omoda was entering the Russian market. Its first-born in the Russian Federation was the compact crossover Omoda C5 (its name for the home market is Chery Omoda 5). The official premiere of this SUV in the Russian Federation took place in October last year, at the start of sales the model was available only with front-wheel drive, and the all-wheel drive modification Omoda C5 joined at the beginning of last spring.

In the future, the Russian model family will be replenished with a fully electric version — Omoda C5 EV. A full presentation of this electric car will take place later, but for now, several official pictures of the future novelty have been published.

«Electric train» is visually significantly different from versions with internal combustion engines. The crossover with the addition of EV has a similarly designed head optics with LED strips of running lights, but in place of the large radiator grille there is a solid plug that resembles a large “X”. Above on the chrome bar is an enlarged logo of the brand. At the bottom of the front bumper is a hexagonal, horizontally elongated air intake patterned with vertical stripes.

The Omoda C5 EV has a black floating roof (the effect is achieved due to the same color of the pillars), traditional door handles and exterior mirrors, a body kit around the perimeter of the body made of unpainted plastic. The model received original wheels. The stern differs due to the absence of exhaust pipes, the rest of the elements are the same, including taillights and a spoiler on the top of the tailgate.

The interior is likely to get fewer differences from the ICE variants. It is likely that the electric crossover will retain the same virtual tidy and touchscreen infotainment system (each diagonal is 10.25 inches), as well as the old central tunnel with wireless smartphone charging and a gear selector.

Recall that the overall length of the gasoline crossover already presented in the Russian Federation is 4400 mm, the width is 1830 mm, and the height is 1588 mm. The distance between the axles is 2630 mm, the ground clearance is 190 mm, and the trunk volume is 378 liters. Whether these parameters will be different for the “green” SUV will be known later. C5

Omoda's Russian office hasn't said anything about the electric train technology yet. The engine range of the current C5 SUV includes a 1.5-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 147 hp. (210 Nm), which works in conjunction with a CVT, as well as a TGDI turbo four with a volume of 1.6 liters with a return of 150 hp. (275 Nm), paired with a seven-speed automatic with two wet clutches. In the first case, only front-wheel drive, in the second — all-wheel drive.

The all-electric Omoda C5 EV crossover will go on sale on the Russian market in the fourth quarter of this year.
