All-wheel drive smart #1 Pulse cheaper and less fast without Brabus livery

Smart Automobile will expand its range of smart #1 subcompact electric crossover modifications: now all-wheel drive is available not only in the most expensive Brabus trim, but also in the more affordable Pulse trim, which launched today in Germany.

Recall that smart Automobile is a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely founded in 2019, Geely has been developing and manufacturing new smart models since then, and Mercedes-Benz oversees their design, all new items are now only electric. The first smart model of the new, Sino-German era was the smart #1 subcompact SUV that debuted last April, based on the SEA modular platform developed by Geely. The main markets for smart are China and Europe, and China receives new models before Europe, and the Chinese market already has the first statistics: smart sales here, according to CAAM (China Association of Automobile Manufacturers), in January-May of this year amounted to 19,711 electric vehicles, which very good for a company that actually started life from scratch. How things will go further, time will tell.

In Europe, smart #1 went on sale only at the beginning of this year, and even then not in all countries, the main market is the historical homeland of the brand – Germany, here today sales of a simplified all-wheel drive smart #1 in the Pulse configuration began. Previously, only the top version of Brabus had a twin-engine power plant, giving the crossover all-wheel drive, which costs in Germany from 48,990 euros. Smart #1 Pulse is more affordable – from 46,490 euros, while its hardware is exactly the same as that of Brabus, but there is a nuance.

    1/3 2/3 3/3

The all-wheel drive smart #1 has an output of 115 kW (156 hp) and 200 Nm at the front, 200 kW (272 hp) and 343 Nm at the rear, for a maximum combined output of 315 kW (428 hp) and 543 Nm. The battery capacity is 66 kWh, the power reserve on one charge in the WLTP cycle is 400 km. The difference between the Brabus and Pulse versions in terms of technical characteristics is only in the dynamics of acceleration: Brabus is gaining the first “hundred” in 3.9 s, Pulse in 4.5 s, the maximum speed in both cases is limited at around 180 km/h. The better acceleration dynamics, as it were, separates the owners of the status Brabus version from the more frugal owners of the Pulse version. richer, smarter and sportier, and the Pulse is simpler in content, but by no means poor: its equipment includes dual-zone climate control, a heat pump, leather upholstery, a panoramic glass roof, all-round cameras, an electric tailgate, a full set of electronic driver assistants (including adaptive cruise control) and a host of other amenities.

Let's add that In April of this year, the smart brand introduced the second model after the restart – the smart #3 coupe-shaped crossover with exactly the same technical stuffing as the smart #1. Why not smart #2? There is no official explanation for this phenomenon, but, most likely, the “two” was reserved for the successor to the recently retired smart fortwo electric car from the old lineup.
