Nearly 100 nursing homes across the country An investigation revealed that 37,000 people were simply empty or were repurposed, despite the fact that 37,000 people were waiting for treatment.

The Liberal Democrats have sent freedom of information requests to local authorities in England asking them to describe in detail nursing home buildings owned or operated by the council that are not currently used to provide care services.
The investigation found that 94 Nursing homes in 46 municipalities are not used for their original purpose.
Thirty-seven disused nursing homes have been found to be unusable, and 15 are empty.

One care home in Cumbria is not in use because it required «significant repairs» to return it to its intended use after the property was subjected to «flooding caused by ingress of water into basement». and «roof leaks causing water damage.»
In North Northamptonshire, the council is in the process of decommissioning a nursing home after it decided the home was also not fit for purpose. The Liberal Democrats called on a fund for advice to renovate and refurbish suitable nursing homes. Daisy Cooper, the party's health and welfare spokesperson, said: «It's a shame for this government that nursing homes are empty while so many elderly and vulnerable people are waiting for social assistance.»
