Police said a Capitol fugitive armed with a gun and explosives, was arrested outside Barack Obama's home.
Taylor Taranto, 37, was spotted by Secret Service agents a few streets away from the former US president's property in Kalorama. in an upscale neighborhood of Washington, D.C. on Thursday evening.
He reportedly tried to flee the scene before he was eventually apprehended.
Officers later found him in his van firearms and materials for the manufacture of explosives, which was parked nearby.
Police said that despite the incident, there was no immediate danger to Obama. It is not yet clear if the family was at home at the time of Taranto's arrest.
«There is no active threat to the community and this incident is still under investigation,» police said in a statement.

They allege that Taranto attacked Mr. Smith.
