Next Generation BMW X2 New Images

X2 exists so far in a single generation, which premiered in the fall of 2017. It also became the serial version of the concept of the same name, demonstrated a year earlier at the Paris Motor Show. Now the Bavarians are testing the second generation of the model, and test samples have repeatedly come across in the lens of photo spies. Judging by the available photos, the crossover will noticeably change with the change of generations.

Like the first generation model, the new X2 will be built on the basis of the third generation X1 crossover, which premiered at the beginning of last summer. The front part is made in his style, while the headlights, nostrils and bumper will receive an original design. From the X-First, the novelty will get keyboard-type door handles and plastic sidewalls. But the body shape is completely different: instead of the usual hatchback, the new X2 now, due to the sloping rear window, will look more like other coupe-shaped crossovers of the brand — X4 and X6. The rear part is the most disguised so far, only some outlines of horizontal lanterns are visible. The license plate niche will be located in the bumper, and the crossover is also depicted with new-design discs.

The second-generation X2 will be based on the FAAR front-wheel drive platform already used by the aforementioned X1, as well as Series 1 and 2 passenger models, with the exception of the 2 Series coupe, which has retained the classic layout. The platform assumes engines of no more than four cylinders, and also a likely all-electric version. The engine range will be similar to the X1 crossover, including the most powerful modification of the M35i xDrive, which was introduced at the end of last month. It is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder biturbo engine, the return of which in Europe is 300 hp. (in the USA this figure is 317 hp), and the maximum torque is 400 Nm. It is possible that for the X2 coupe-shaped crossover, these figures will be slightly improved.

The premiere of the novelty may take place before the end of this year.
