The entire police force will have to offer a direct path to becoming a detective to boost 'horrible' crime indictment rates if Labor comes to power, Yvette Cooper said.
Ms Cooper, the shadow home secretary, told the Labor government the military would be legally responsible for offering direct recruitment routes so that people with relevant experience can join without spending two years training in action.
The party said that only about half of the forces in England and Wales offered such schemes, which could allow older recruits to enter the police service if they had experience in investigating fraud in business and protecting children.
It happens on recession background. the percentage of solved crimes was only 5.7% compared to 15.5% in 2014-2015.
The number of solved crimes hit a new low
There are about 7,000 job openings for detectives who are often expected to work past anti-social hours with no overtime available to bobby at the scene.
Andy Cook, Chief Inspector of Police, also expressed concern. about a shortage of experienced detectives and poor oversight of those on the front lines, which contributed to low prosecution rates.
Home Office data for a 12-month period from last April showed that 2.3 million crimes. abandoned without finding a suspect.
The charge rate for sexual offenses was 3.6 percent, up from 13.9 percent, and for rape, 2.1 percent, down from 10.9 percent. Only 6.5% of robberies ended in charges, compared to 18.9%.
Ms Cooper called the numbers a «national scandal» as Labor vowed to increase the number of crimes solved if the party wins the next election .
“After 13 years of Conservative rule, more than 90% of crimes remain unsolved,” she said. “This is a terrible track record of law enforcement conservatives – more criminals are released and more victims. For some serious crimes, such as rape and robbery, the prosecution rate is now so low that it constitutes a national scandal.
“Too many crimes have been committed in this country for too long without any consequences. Increasingly, it seems to the victims that no one comes and nothing is done. Labor decided that this had to change. “
Labor has also pledged to bring 13,000 more cops and police to the streets, including 3,000 officers shielded from the rest of the government-planned uprising.
