Ministers don't have to wait for elections to act on the European Convention on Human Rights, senior Tories say.
MPs representing groups of more than 60 supporters said the government should not wait for a manifest to state whether it will leave the convention, but instead pass legislation to «explicitly state» that it will not apply to migrants who arrive illegally in the UK on small boats.
< p>Their statement comes ahead of a Supreme Court ruling on the legality of the government's plan to deport illegal migrants to Rwanda, after the Court of Appeal ruled that the country was not safe for asylum seekers and therefore could violate their human rights under the ECHR.

'None of their business'

As with the prisoner vote, we had to tell them it was none of their business, and until we did, the boats would keep coming.
“Given where we are now, the government should enact legislation as soon as possible when parliament returns to make it clear that the ECHR will not apply in the cross-channel courts scenario and that ultimate control of our borders will not be at the whim of the Strasbourg judges.” '.
Miriam Cates, a senior figure in the New Conservatives group, which is mostly made up of Red Wall deputies, said: parts, and prepare for a total withdrawal if we lose in the Supreme Court. ”

“But if they are wrong, we need to change the law. This means repealing the Human Rights Act and withdrawing from the ECtHR, or at least revisiting our relationship with it,” he said.
Sir John Redwood said the Conservative Party should not wait until the next general election to outline how he intends to eliminate the impact of the Convention on his efforts to stop boats.
He argued that ministers should instead come up with a «very short» and simple new law that would «repeal» the rulings of European judges that impede the government's border policy.
Ministers are confident. that they would win their case in the Supreme Court, but they were told that the government could not appeal to the European Court of Justice if they lost, as only individuals could appeal.
