Brutal SUV Leopard 5 from BYD appeared in official photos

The Leopard 5 is the first of BYD's new FangChengBao brand and will be offered with a choice of hybrid and all-electric powertrains, sales will begin this year.

In early spring, BYD announced a new subsidiary brand with the working name F-Brand, under which it will produce brutal pickups and SUVs — of course, only plug-in hybrid or fully electric , because last year BYD abandoned the production of purely «hydrocarbon» models. In the BYD hierarchy, the new brand will be placed between the new luxury brand Yangwang and the premium Denza.

In June, F-Brand became FangChengBao (方程豹), which means «leopard formula» or » leopard equation. The semantics of FangChengBao confuses even the Chinese media, but there is no ambiguity with the name of the first model — it is simply called Leopard 5. jpg» />At the stage of teasers and camouflaged prototypes, the Leopard 5 was presented as a stylistic analogue of the legendary Mercedes-Benz G-class, the German SUV even flashed in promo shots. Today, finally, the first official pictures of the Leopard 5 without camouflage were published and, as you can see, in terms of style, it is closer to the Haval Raptor and iCar 03 (iCar is a new brand of Chery) than to the Mercedes-Benz G-class, and in the profile also resembles Yangwang U8.

The main feature of the Leopard 5 design is the complex profile of the sidewalls, reminiscent of a fuel canister with ribs. The looped diodes in the rear lights, in turn, resemble the winding of an electric motor. The tailgate opens to the side, it hangs a full-size spare tire in a wardrobe trunk. The rear bumper has exposed towing lugs.The overall length of the Leopard 5 is about five meters, it is based on the BYD DM-o modular platform. The SUV will be offered with a choice of electric or plug-in hybrid propulsion systems, the latter ICE will act as an electric range extender, that is, the wheels in both cases will rotate electric motors with a total power of about 500 kW (680 hp). The power reserve of the hybrid version with a full charge/refueling will be about 1200 km. The design claims a height-adjustable suspension, locking cross-axle differentials and locking the “center” (probably meaning an imitation of the work of a center differential, although it is clear that an electric SUV does not need it).

Photos of the interior have not yet been published, but judging by the pictures of photo spies, everything there will also be square-nested, and the finish is very luxurious, mostly leather . The approximate price range of Leopard 5 is from 400,000 to 600,000 yuan (from 5.5 million to 8.2 million rubles in translation at the current exchange rate), a full premiere will take place in the coming days.
