HFO vehicles are still in demand in Japan, Australia and Europe.
< p> «Diesel scandal», which started in 2015, swept almost all over the world and affected many automakers, as well as suppliers of auto components. Echoes of “dieselgate” are still heard: at the end of last year, it became known that the German company Bosch had to agree to a deal as part of a California investigation and pay $ 25 million to settle its participation in the scandal.

Many automakers are gradually removing diesel modifications of their models from sale, and are also developing new products without diesel engines in the engine range. However, this does not apply to Mazda.

In an interview with CarExpert, Mazda CX-90 Project Manager Mitsuru Wakiie revealed that Mazda is going to sell cars with diesel engines as long as there is demand for them. “If customers need diesel cars, then as long as we can meet emission standards, we would like to continue to supply diesels,” he explained.
So the Japanese company continues to develop new cars, including diesel engines in the line. For example, the flagship Mazda CX-90 crossover presented at the beginning of this year in Australia is offered not only with a gasoline engine, but also with a 3.3-liter in-line diesel turbo six, as part of the e-Skyactiv D mild hybrid system, its power is 254 hp ., and the maximum torque is 550 Nm.

For comparison, in the main market for the model, in the States, the CX-90 crossover is available with a 3.3-liter e-Skyactiv G in-line petrol turbo six in two boost options — 284 hp. (450 Nm), or 345 hp (500 Nm). Both versions are equipped with a 48-volt M Hybrid Boost starter-alternator. Another option is a full-fledged rechargeable hybrid, which is based on a 2.5-liter four-cylinder aspirated engine that works in tandem with an electric motor and a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. The total system output of this CX-90 is 327 hp. (500 Nm).
Even in Australia, with diesels, the CX-5 crossover leaving the USA, as well as the unrepresented CX-8, are also offered. The Mazda BT-50 pickup truck runs exclusively on heavy fuel. The truck range in Australia includes a base 150-horsepower engine with a volume of 1.9 liters (350 Nm), and a 3.0-liter diesel engine with 190 hp acts as a top-end. (450 Nm). In turn, the brand offers diesel versions of the Mazda 2, Mazda 3, Mazda 6, CX-3, CX-30, CX-5 and CX-8 models in the home market.

In Europe, the Mazda CX-60 crossover, which debuted in the spring of 2022, is equipped with a 3.3-liter inline six-cylinder turbodiesel, its power is 231 HP (500 Nm), and with a 48-volt mild hybrid add-on, the output of the e-Skyactiv D system is 254 hp. (550 Nm), like the platform CX-90. In Australia, this version is also available.
It is worth noting that in Europe the demand for diesel engines, although there is, but still it is very noticeably reduced. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), in 2017, heavy fuel vehicles accounted for approximately 44% of the total new car market in the European Union. But by 2021, this figure has dropped to about 25%. In June of this year, another decline was recorded: the share of diesel engines in the EU accounts for only 13.4%.
