Volkswagen ID concept electric hatchback debuts. The GTI took place at the IAA Motor Show in Munich. This is the first electric car in the history of the brand to bear the legendary GTI nameplate, because so far Volkswagen has used for «charged» variations of their electric cars, the abbreviation GTX. While the novelty is a concept, however, the production model has already been launched into development — it should be released in 2026.
Based on Volkswagen ID. GTI lies a different concept — ID.2all, introduced earlier this year. We are talking about the harbinger of the entry-level electric hatchback, which will cost up to 25 thousand euros and will be one of the most budgetary offers in the segment. Now for the «people's» electric vehicle is confirmed «charged» a variation of the GTI.
If for fuel models this abbreviation stands for Grand Touring Injection, then in the case of electric cars it has turned into Grand Touring Intelligence, which hints at «smart»; technologies. Details on one of them, called the GTI Experience Control, have already been reported.
From ID.2all, the GTI-badged version features a more aggressive grille style at the bottom of the front bumper in terms of design, sports body kit «in a circle», extended wheel arches, a spoiler on the fifth door and an enlarged diffuser in the rear bumper.
