The new SUV is presented as an all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid. At the moment, the model is only available in the home of the brand.
It's done: the name Century now bears not only the executive sedan of Toyota, but also a large and, of course, a luxurious crossover. Moreover, the four-door is not going to retire, as the company's representatives announced during today's SUV presentation. It is curious that it is the cross that is called «simply» Century, while the second model is now the Century Sedan. Well, let us recall that the four-door Toyota has been in service since 1967, and its current generation is only the third: such a Century sedan debuted in 2018, it is built on a rear-wheel drive platform and has a hybrid installation based on a V8 5.0 engine. However, the Century SUV is built differently.

The new flagship has a spring suspension with McPherson struts at the front and a multi-link at the rear, while the chassis additionally has a rear wheel thruster. » />
Toyota Century SUV is also a hybrid, but V8 is not supposed to be. But the cross can be charged from an outlet: the PHEV installation includes a 2GR-FXS V6 3.5 gasoline aspirator (mounted transversely) and an electromechanical variator, a separate electric motor is located on the rear axle (all-wheel drive is called E-Four). The total return of the cross is 412 hp. Only on electric traction, a car weighing 2570 kg is able to travel 69 kilometers. There are driving modes Eco, Normal, Sport, Custom and — new — Rear Comfort. The latter involves smoothing accelerations and decelerations in order to provide maximum comfort for VIP passengers.

By the way, at the premiere they also demonstrated a car with a sliding rear door, like minivans. True, such an option is not yet listed in the price list. There are also plans for a convertible! A crossover without a roof was shown on the presentation slide, although Toyota itself did not mention such a version in the release. It is possible that the convertible will be made only if there is a corresponding order.
The Century SUV is offered exclusively with a four-seat interior, in which the main focus, of course, was on the second row. The rear seats are separated by a massive tunnel, which has two separate remote controls to control the main functions. Between the reclining backs is a small refrigerator. The seats themselves are electric, heated and ventilated, plus there are folding footrests. The seat behind the front passenger can also be moved forward. Above the heads of the rear riders is a glass section. Separate entertainment system displays are also provided.

The luxury crossover has so far been announced only for native Japan, orders are already open there. The initial sales plan is only 30 copies per month. The price of the only configuration at the moment is 25 million yen, which is equivalent to about $ 170,000. For comparison, the coolest Toyota Land Cruiser 300 SUV (GR Sport version) costs 8 million yen ($54,000) in the brand’s homeland, and the top-end Lexus LX will cost 18 million yen ($122,000) there. Toyota Century sedan starts at 20,080,000 yen ($136,000).
