Elegend AG from the Bavarian town of Beilngries has completed the development of an electric sports car EL1, made in the style of the rally legend of the 80s — Audi sport quattro . Elegend EL1 is equipped with a twin-engine power plant producing 816 hp. and can drive two combat laps around the Nürburgring Nordschleife on one charge.
Elegend AG was founded by German designer and entrepreneur Markus Holzinger; in the summer of 2021, it announced the EL1 project, which will revive the spirit of Audi sport quattro. Roding Mobility GmbH, also based in Bavaria, is responsible for engineering in the Elegend EL1 project and has extensive experience in developing prototypes and platforms for small-scale vehicles.
The original Audi sport quattro is, remember, a shortened and heavily modified version of the Audi quattro coupe, which won the World Rally Championship in the drivers' championship in 1983 and 1984, plus two titles in the team championship in 1982 and 1984. The short version of the sport is considered more technically advanced, 220 cars were produced in road specification for homologation, and today they cost a fortune on the secondary market. Chic replicas of the Audi sport quattro, by the way, are made by the tuning studio LCE High Performance, and the Elegend company decided to reinvent the Audi sport quattro, taking into account the modern level of technology and design.

The Elegend EL1 is based on a carbon fiber monocoque, and the outer panels are also made of carbon fiber. The production Elegend EL1 differs from the renderings of the 2021 model by traditional mirrors instead of cameras, a simplified design of door handles (they decided to abandon retractable ones) and a triangular ceiling window — it is elegantly integrated into the aerodynamic chute running under the spoiler at the rear of the roof. Overall length of Elegend EL1 — 4155 mm, width — 1910 mm, height — 1270 mm, wheelbase — 2445 mm.

Suspension: spring, double wishbone all-round, with adjustable shock absorbers. All wheels are equipped with disc brakes with a diameter of 360 mm with 4-piston calipers. The size of the front tires is 285/30 R 19, the rear tires are 305/30 R 20. The battery with a capacity of 80 kWh is partly located in the central tunnel, partly behind the backs of the driver’s and the only passenger’s seats. The sports car's curb weight is 1,790 kg, weight distribution is 47/53 in favor of the rear axle.

The Elegend EL1's powertrain consists of two rather than three electric motors as envisioned two years ago, but the combined peak power remains unchanged at 600 kW (816 hp). The maximum output of the front electric motor is 150 kW (204 hp) and 500 Nm, the rear one is 450 kW (612 hp) and 1100 Nm. Both cross-axle differentials are self-locking. The electric sports car accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, to 200 km/h in 7.5 seconds, and a top speed of over 300 km/h. The range on one charge is 400 km on the WLTP cycle or two quick laps on the Nürburgring Nordschleife (42 km).

The interior is decorated laconicly and at the same time elegantly; on renderings it is shown in two versions — classic line (red upholstery, racing seat belts) and new line (beige-green upholstery, traditional seat belts). On the sides of the electronic instrument panel there are blocks of large physical keys, like an Audi from the 80s. There is no separate multimedia screen, but there is a touch panel on the central tunnel, it is responsible for microclimate settings.

Elegend will release only 30 copies of the EL1, the price is 890,000 euros excluding taxes. Production and deliveries will begin next year, then the Bavarian company plans to introduce new models based on other rally legends — we look forward to it.
