Hyundai used «N-Day» in 2022 to show two N-prefixed concepts. The first was the RN22e, an Ioniq 6 sedan turned into a movable wide-body test bed for features such as performance-oriented regenerative braking and synthetic audio N Sound + effects. The second, most unremarkable concept was the N Vision 74, a hydrogen-powered model that turned the original 1974 Pony Coupe concept into a retro sports car with classic, chiseled lines.
Even Hyundai executives have publicly stated that they want to build a car, and they may have finally found a way to do it. It became known that Hyundai has filed an application for the “Hyundai N74” trademark. in Europe on September 20.
The move represents a bigger move than anything we've seen since the concept debuted.
At the Canadian International Auto Show in February this year, Till Wartenberg, Hyundai's vice president of brand management and motorsport, said: “My personal wish — release this car. It's probably an [expensive] investment at first, but if we could see this car in the flesh and people buying it, I'd be very happy.
Patent category, specified in the application covers “cars” sports cars; [and] electric cars.» If something does come to market, we suspect it will move away from hydrogen as an energy source, but will remain committed to electricity.
