Zhigalov noted that the increase in the recycling fee rate and significant fluctuations in the ruble exchange rate have already led to an increase in the cost of cars. By the time the end of the year arrives, we can expect an additional rise in prices of up to 30% from the beginning of January.
According to analysts, for the eight months of this year, the sales volume of new passenger cars in Russia increased by 41% compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to almost 606 thousand units. The most in demand were cars of the LADA brand and Chinese manufacturers, and the sales of the brands Kia (-53.2%), Hyundai (-54.3%) and Toyota (-34.4%) fell the most.
Already at the beginning of July, dealers warned about the upcoming rise in price of new passenger cars against the background of the weakening of the ruble against the dollar, euro and yuan. It was expected that the average price increase would be 5-10% in the summer and autumn.
Andrey Olkhovsky, CEO of Avtodom, noted that almost all Chinese automakers are considering options to update prices for their cars. He suggested that the initial market reaction would be negative, but that over time the market would adapt to new prices and circumstances.
