Rear-wheel drive models from «VAZ» and “Niva” have many common features, so installing an all-wheel drive system on a VAZ sedan can be called not a radical modification, but rather a “deep modernization”. To propel this all-wheel drive sedan, a 1.5-liter VAZ-2103 engine with a power of 72 hp is used, which is mated to a 4-speed gearbox from the VAZ-2121. Also in the project, both axles and wheels from the Niva were used.
In the body, released in 1991, front spars from the Niva were introduced, the front driveshaft acquired a reinforced splined part, the generator was moved upward, a snorkel was installed, and an inter-wheel locking of the rear wheels was also added. This symbiosis between Niva and the classic VAZ sedan promises increased space for rear passengers, a larger trunk, increased comfort and improved cross-country ability.
