According to preliminary data, the new SUV of the Japanese brand may be named Land Hopper. It is expected that this model will be the size of the Corolla Cross.
The presentation of the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (in some markets — just Land Cruiser) turned out to be rich in new products. In addition to the SUV itself, the company presented the updated “classic” Land Cruiser 70, and in the background a couple more teasers of future new products appeared, one of which, judging by the silhouette, is a small car with “squared” shapes.

It is possible that behind that teaser was hidden the future successor of the FJ Cruiser, which has been tipped to return to the global market for several years now. Let us remember that the model appeared in 2006, in 2014 it left its main market — the States, in 2017 — it disappeared from the Japanese line, and in October last year the FJ Cruiser left the Middle Eastern market (then 1000 cars were produced for customers in Saudi Arabia special versions of Final Edition).
There are no official details about the new product flashed in the teaser yet. It can be assumed that the image is a hint at the Toyota Compact Cruiser EV — this concept was first shown at the end of 2021 during the presentation of its “green” strategy, involving the introduction of 30 new electric vehicles under the Toyota and Lexus brands before the beginning of the next decade. Another portion of pictures of the Compact Cruiser EV was published in the summer of 2022.

It is known that a few weeks after the presentation of the Prado, Toyota filed an application to register the name Land Hopper: it is possible that this name will eventually go to a compact frame SUV. According to the Japanese publication Best Car, it will be the size of a small crossover Corolla Cross (the version for the home market has a length of 4490 mm, a width of 1825 mm, and a height of 1620 mm). It is expected that the new product will be based on a shortened version of the GA-F platform.

One of the most interesting assumptions of the Japanese publication is the potential “filling”. It is noted that the compact SUV can be equipped with traditional gasoline engines, as well as hybrid units. According to unconfirmed reports, the Toyota Land Hopper may borrow technology from either the Corolla Cross (we are talking about a 1.8-liter engine and hybrids based on it), or from the RAV4 (a 2.0-liter engine and an electrified version based on a 2.5-liter motor).
It is expected that in a few years the family will be replenished with an all-electric version. Most likely, the top version of the frame SUV will have all-wheel drive (that is, at least two electric motors, one on each axle). However, it is possible that the basic version will receive only one electric motor (and, accordingly, one drive axle).
One of the most high-profile recent premieres of the brand was the luxury crossover Toyota Century. This all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid is currently only available in the domestic market. The price tag of the new product is three times higher than the cost of the large Land Cruiser 300 SUV.
