Next year, Porsche launched the long-awaited all-electric mid-size crossover Macan, a few weeks before the premiere, some of its technical features were revealed PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platforms with an 800-volt electrical architecture.
Initially, the abbreviation PPE was mentioned in connection with the Porsche Taycan electric sedan, which debuted in 2019, but then the Taycan platform was assigned the index J1 , since this platform turned out to be transitional and unsuitable for other models. Besides the Porsche Taycan, the only clone from Audi built on the J1 platform is the e-tron GT sedan.

The real PPE platform, the first-born of which will be the Porsche Macan EV and the Audi Q6 e-tron, will be more flexible, more advanced and more widespread, while looking at the first technical renderings, it is clear that there is no fundamental difference in the layout between the J1 and PPE platforms, but PPE uses more compact integrated power modules (an electric motor, gearbox and power electronics unit are combined in one housing), a more modern battery and, most importantly, the latest integrated operating system, the development of which has become a headache for the Cariad IT division of the Volkswagen concern.

The crisis at Cariad led to the postponement of the debut of many new models of the German concern: in particular, the Porsche Macan EV and Audi Q6 e-tron were supposed to enter the market this year, but due to the unavailability of the software, the premieres have not yet taken place and it is not yet known when will take place — it is only clear that quite soon — it is expected that both models will already be on sale this coming spring. By the way, the names of Porsche Macan EV and Audi Q6 e-tron are preliminary and conditional. We will only find out what these models will actually be called at the official premieres. Audi, according to rumors, is going to abandon the e-tron prefix in first-level names, that is, in connection with models, but may leave it to designate modifications.

Selected Western journalists have already driven prototypes of the Macan EV at the Porsche proving ground in Leipzig: judging by the photographs, the German company really wanted to show that the Macan EV is equally good both on the race track and on light off-road conditions — it can even force small fords. The crossovers on the test drive had minimal external camouflage, so you can already get a fairly complete picture of the appearance: the electric Macan turned out to be a little heavier than its “hydrocarbon” namesake, but in general it had the same coupe-like format, the same proportions.

The interior has already been officially declassified, because, as it turned out, there is nothing to hide here. Alas, Porsche has come to standard showrooms: from the inside, the Macan EV is not much different from the third-generation Panamera liftback that debuted last month — the same screens, the same microclimate unit, the same steering wheel, the same transmission mode selector to the right of the steering wheel. The differences essentially come down to the shape of the central air ducts and the central tunnel. But, as we said above, the Macan has a more recent operating system, and above the 12.6-inch electronic instrument panel there is an augmented reality screen on the windshield: navigation tips are superimposed on the desired lane of the real road, which greatly reduces the likelihood of an erroneous maneuver driver's side.

The chassis of the Macan EV is fully controlled, the base will have an adaptive spring suspension, and the advanced versions will have an air suspension. The maximum output of the twin-engine power plant is about 450 kW (612 hp) and 1000 Nm, while the front electric motor is inactive most of the time so as not to waste energy, it is activated only during intense acceleration and when the rear wheels slip, which is mainly is responsible for recuperation during braking and coasting. The battery capacity is about 100 kWh, the range on one charge has not yet been revealed.
The Macan EV is a very important model for Porsche, it should become the bestseller of the electric line. By the end of the decade, all Porsche models will become electric, except for the iconic 911 family, which so far is only destined for hybridization, that is, gasoline engines will remain and, possibly, will be switched to powered by synthetic fuel.
