The Tory factions that could make or break Sunak's premiership

Rishi Sunak faces a defining moment as Prime Minister as Tory MPs examine details of his new plan to stop illegal migration.< /p>

The Prime Minister has unveiled a new agreement with Rwanda and new legislation which he says will ensure migrants arriving on small boats are deported from the UK.

Hours after the announcement, he was rocked by the resignation of Robert Jenrick, the immigration secretary, who said the measures did not go far enough.

Dame Andrea Janicknes, the Conservative MP for Morley and Outwood, said his The decision to leave “could be the death knell for Sunak’s leadership.”

Right-wing Tory MPs have joined forces to scrutinize the plan, while a “star chamber” of lawyers and experts is expected to deliver its verdict. Moderate MPs have expressed concern that the proposals violate international law and have ordered their own legal advice.

If they decide to vote against the legislation, it is unlikely to pass Parliament given that it will also be opposed by Labor and other parties.

These are the four Tory factions that could hold Mr Sunak's future in their hands hands.
