ST. PETERSBURG, December 17, Dmitry Edigarev. Three-time Olympic medalist swimmer Yulia Efimova said that she is ready to compete at the Olympic Games in Paris if the admission conditions are acceptable.
On December 8, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the Olympics in Paris in an individual neutral status subject to a number of criteria.
“»We need to study the conditions that were put forward to us. Of course, I am for the Olympics, because this is a unique chance and the dream of so many athletes. If the conditions are completely contrary to the rules of our country, then I will refuse. And if somehow everything is possible arrange and perform without going against anyone, I would try if I can prepare. We also performed in Beijing in a neutral status, but everyone only remembers the names of the winners, for example, our figure skaters. Still, everyone knows where we are from. If now there will be tough conditions that will cause big problems, then I won’t take risks, because it’s more important for me to stay in my country,” Efimova said.
In accordance with the decision of the IOC Executive Committee, neutral athletes and their personnel must refrain from any activity related to the national flag, anthem, emblem or any other symbol of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, national federations or Olympic committees, as well as from supporting the CBO at any official event or in the media before, during and after the Olympic Games.
