Ofcom, the media regulator, will assess companies' success or failure in meeting the December 31 deadline in a spring report to Michelle Donelan, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology.
This was announced by a government representative. : “We continue to work with operators to remove Huawei technology as quickly as possible while minimizing disruption to consumers, and operators continue to work to remove it from public 5G networks by the end of 2027.”
“We have already has introduced an immediate ban on the installation of new Huawei equipment, limiting its presence in full fiber infrastructure, and is removing technology from sites that pose a risk to national security.»
An Ofcom spokesman said: «The government is responsible for setting and enforcing the rules requiring some telecommunications companies to remove Huawei equipment from their networks.
“Ofcom's role is to collect information about the progress of companies and report this to the government.”
