A person involved in the theft case on Vostochny died in a Moscow hospital

MOSCOW, January 11 Sergei Volkodav, a defendant in the case of embezzlement of money during the construction of the Vostochny cosmodrome, died in one of the Moscow hospitals, the capital’s department of the Federal Penitentiary Service reported.
The department emphasized that the information about the beating of the accused in pre-trial detention center-4 and his injury leading to death does not correspond to reality.

The service clarified that on December 30, Volkodav was sent to City Clinical Hospital No. 13 for a medical examination. Investigative authorities released the defendant from custody after he received a positive conclusion about the presence of a serious illness.

As Kommersant writes, in January 2022, the Khabarovsk court sentenced Sergei Volkodav and his brother Yuri to 4.9 and 6.5 years in prison in the case of theft during the construction of the Vostochny cosmodrome. After consideration of appeals, both were released.
In September 2023, it became known that Sergei Volkodav was accused of embezzling about a billion rubles in the execution of government contracts concluded with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Instroy State Unitary Enterprise under Spetsstroy of Russia. In this case, he was in a pre-trial detention center.
