The history of the BMW 5 series began back in 1972, and the presentation of the current eighth generation model (G60 series) took place in May last year. Now the manufacturer is preparing for the imminent presentation of the new 5 series Touring and i5 Touring station wagons.
The Bavarian manufacturer continues to keep the appearance of future five-door cars a secret, despite the fact that patent images have already been circulated on the Internet. By the way, they formed the basis for rendering images of the BMW 5 series Touring, which were created by the designer Kolesa.ru.
Last fall, the Bavarians shared a teaser of the future “regular” station wagon, and now they have published a short video with the all-electric version – the BMW i5 Touring. The darkened video begins with the emerging profile of the future new product, then it begins to rotate and the frame ends with the approach of the stern with the lights going out. Their design is made of broken lines that form “squared” horseshoes.

You can see the “shark fin” antenna of the car in the video on the roof and a spoiler located at the top of the tailgate; The pre-production prototype also has traditional exterior mirrors and roof rails.
It is expected that the front end of the station wagon will be designed in the same way as that of the “green” sedan that debuted last year. In this case, the i5 Touring will receive slanted LED headlights with brackets for running lights, a hood with relief stampings, on the edge of which there is a logo, as well as a plug in the shape of “branded nostrils” and a pattern imitating a traditional radiator grille. A pair of side and large central air intakes with a glossy surround are integrated into the lower part of the front bumper.

The upcoming station wagon will also have a sedan-like interior. This means that on the front panel you can see a curved digital display, which combines both a 12.3-inch diagonal virtual instrument panel and a 14.9-inch diagonal touchscreen of the BMW OS 8.5 infotainment system. Using multimedia, you can also change the climate control settings. And the ventilation deflectors are controlled by joysticks located at the bottom of the panel.

The technology of the BMW i5 Touring will most likely be the same as that of “ green” four-door “five”. Let us remind you that the basic version of the i5 eDrive40 is equipped with a single electric motor located on the rear axle. Its output is 340 hp and maximum torque is 430 Nm. This sedan needs 6 seconds to accelerate from zero to “hundreds”. The top-end version of the BMW i5 M60 xDrive has a dual-motor installation, its total power is 601 hp. (820 Nm). This four-door car reaches the first “hundred” in 3.8 seconds. Both versions are equipped with a traction battery with a capacity of 81.2 kWh.
