MOSCOW, January 29 More than a thousand artists from Sweden called on the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to exclude Israel from participating in the armed conflict in the Gaza Strip Eurovision 2024 music competition, which will be held in Malmo, Sweden.
“We believe that by allowing Israel to participate, the EBU is demonstrating a noteworthy double standard that undermines the credibility of the organization… We therefore call on the EBU: remove Israel from the Eurovision Song Contest 2024,” write 1,005 artists in the appeal. published in the newspaper Aftonbladet.
They expect that Swedish television channel SVT, which will be the main broadcaster of the competition, will be “consistent in its approach” and “stop the double standard.”

Earlier in January, more than 1.4 thousand representatives of the Finnish music industry signed a petition to the national broadcaster Yle demanding influence on the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and ban Israel from participating in the music competition.
Last December, the Icelandic publication Iceland Review reported that the Icelandic Association of Composers and Songwriters asked the national broadcaster not to take part in Eurovision 2024 if Israel were among the participants.
Last July, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced that the Swedish city of Malmö would host the Eurovision 2024 music contest. Malmö has previously hosted Eurovision — in 1992 and 2013.
