MOSCOW, February 1The first exhibition “Battle of Judgment,” dedicated to one of the iconic battles, on the site of which more than four thousand artifacts were found over the past three years, opened at the Oryol Museum of Local Lore. The exposition became one of the stages in the creation of a future memorial and museum complex dedicated to the feat of the Russian troops in this battle, according to a press release from the museum.
As noted, the exhibition combines traditional exhibitions and multimedia technologies, immersing in the atmosphere of 16 century, became part of the work to perpetuate the memory of the Battle of Judgment in 1555.
“The opening of a new exhibition exposition reflecting the valor of the defenders of the Fatherland, their feat of arms in the bloody Battle of Judgment in 1555 is a continuation of many years of work on the patriotic education of the residents of the Oryol region, especially children and youth, and the preservation of our historical memory,” emphasized Andrey, governor of the Oryol region Klychkov, whose words are given in the message.
The basis of the exhibition was the research work and discoveries of archaeologists. During field research in the spring of 2021, specialists near the village of Sudbishche discovered the site of a battle between the Russian army and the soldiers of the Crimean Tatar khan Devlet I Giray. During archaeological research from 2021 to 2023, more than four thousand historical artifacts were discovered.
According to experts, Russian chronicles and discharge books contain detailed descriptions of the course of the battle, and the fate of some of its participants is reflected in various historical documents, but artifacts found in recent years have helped complete the picture. The field of the Battle of Sudbischenskaya in the Oryol region made it possible to obtain unique information about the history of the battle.
“The museum staff was given a difficult task — through an exhibition dedicated to the Battle of Judgment, through the imagery and sequence of themes developed in the exhibition, to reveal the information potential of military events of the mid-16th century, to identify their significance for Russian history, and, thereby, to bring them closer to the visitor «, said Dmitry Moiseev, director of the Oryol Museum of Local Lore.
As noted in the message, traditional exhibitions using modern interactive solutions, multimedia technologies and video installations immerse exhibition visitors in the atmosphere of the mid-16th century and tell about the events of the battle.
According to the head of the Department of Russian History at Oryol State University, chairman Academic Council of the Oryol Museum of Local Lore Sergei Minakov, the creation of the exhibition “Battle of Judgment” opens not only a new museum space. “It is the next chapter of the museum’s comprehension and research of a significant and significant period in the history of the Oryol region, the entire central “indigenous” Russia,” he noted.
