After completing the first mile in 4 minutes 3.63 seconds, Kerr had a stunning finish at the Millrose Games, beating American Grant Fisher and completing the final mile in 3 minutes 57.04 seconds. which is almost three seconds behind Farah's world-best time in 2015.
Kerr, who shocked Jakob Ingebrigtzen by winning 1500m world championship gold last summer, has since been engaged in something of a war of words with the Norwegian great man.
Ingebrigtsen said he came down with World Cup fever and called Kerr «just the next guy» after he suffered his only significant defeat last year when it mattered most.

Kerr responded by saying that Ingebrigtsen had a «real serious weakness» and that «the ego is pretty high about it.» He also said that Ingebrigtsen has «some shortcomings in terms of manners» and that «I think on championship day I will be the best athlete in the world.»
Ingebrigtsen, the reigning Olympic champion, has since said that will beat Kerr or Jake Whiteman «98 times out of 100» ahead of their clash in Paris this summer.
Another of Team GB's leading athletes has the chance to make a big boost ahead of the Doha Olympics at the World Swimming Championships in Monday.
Adam Peaty, who has taken several breaks from the sport since the Tokyo Games, qualified fastest in the 100m breaststroke final, but he is unsure whether he can score an unprecedented hat-trick of Olympic gold in the event. Victory on Monday would mean an eighth world championship, but Peaty will be keenly aware that his main rival, China's Qin Haiyang, is not swimming in Doha and is still seen by many in the sport as the favorite for Olympic gold.
< p>Petey, who has not won a world title since 2019, won Sunday's semifinal in 58.60 seconds, a time that was well ahead of his best but faster than he has managed since 2021.
“In this sport, you never know what's going to happen in an Olympic year,” Peaty said.
“Will I ever go back to who I was? Probably no. I agree with this, and I am not just an athlete, I am a person who wants to achieve more in sports, but also constantly improve in my growth.»
