MOSCOW, February 15 The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has brought charges in absentia against the Ukrainian singer Taisiya Povaliy — they relate to a number of articles related to supporting Russia.
The department does not name the person involved, but publishes a retouched photo of the artist, who was a Rada deputy from the Party of Regions, received the title of People's Artist of Ukraine in 1997, and after moving to Russia in 2014, continues her creative work outside of Ukraine.
«Under the procedural leadership of the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor's Office, a people's deputy of Ukraine of the 7th convocation from the banned Party of Regions, a former People's Artist of Ukraine, was notified of suspicion. She is charged with collaboration activities, public calls for an aggressive war and justification, recognition as lawful, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and “glorification of its participants,” the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine said in a statement.
The prosecutor's office said that the suspect regularly takes part in political events, in particular in a concert in Lugansk on the anniversary of the liberation of the city from the Nazi invaders.
Previously, the Ukrainian authorities repeatedly brought charges in absentia and sentenced representatives of Russia, but this did not lead to any consequences.
