The Interregional Championship of the Russian Drift Series — RDS EUROPE — will introduce several serious changes at once and is expanding its geography. The new season of RDS EUROPE starts on April 13-14 at the ROSTOV ARENA site in Rostov-on-Don.
We are glad to return to Rostov-on-Don, where there have been no RDS competitions since 2019 of the year. I really wanted to give a home stage to both athletes and fans from the Southern Federal District. I am sure that, as before, they will greet us warmly. Dmitry Dobrovolsky head of the Russian Drift Series
A completely new location for RDS has also appeared in the championship — Chelyabinsk. The sixth stage of RDS EUROPE is planned in the capital of the Southern Urals, which will take place on August 24-25 at the recently updated and expanded ASK «Route 74» within the city. Athletes and fans of controlled skidding will find a large asphalt area built specifically for drifting competitions.
The remaining stages will take place at the circuits that are already familiar and loved by RDS EUROPE participants. The second stage will take place on May 18-19 at the ATRON International Circuit in Ryazan. According to the already established tradition, this circuit will host two stages of the season at once — the second and the final seventh, which is scheduled for September 21-22. However, the organizers warn about a possible change in the date of the final.
The third, fourth and fifth stages will take place respectively at KazanRing Сanyon on June 8-9, NRing Circuit on July 67 and Igora Drive on July 2728 as part of the GARAGE FEST “Igora Drive” festival 2024.
The global change of the RDS EUROPE championship in 2024 is two competitive classifications: PRO (“pro”) and NXT (“next”) — and the introduction of “mono tires” in both**.
PRO participants will ride on the usual RDS EUROPE 235th wheel (235/35-R18) with a minimum vehicle weight limit of 1250 kg. Participants in the NXT classification — on the 225th wheel (225/45-R17) with a ban on the use in cars of a gearbox with a sequential gear shift mechanism and a rear gearbox with the ability to quickly change the gear ratio (Winters type). In fact, we will have two competitions in one weekend: the PRO and NXT drivers will have separate qualifications and paired heats. Winners will be awarded in individual and team competitions in each class — based on the results of the stage and the championship as a whole. In 2024, RDS EUROPE will have four champions: two drivers and two teams.
The introduction of a new classification with simplified technical requirements and a narrower wheel will open up the official RDS EUROPE drift competition to new participants with less powerful cars. Participation in the NXT competition will be more accessible, while the level of organization and judging, certain technical requirements, “mono tire” and the very atmosphere of the championship will ensure healthy competition, effective development of pilots and their rapid assimilation in the world of professional motorsport. In the PRO competition, starting this year, we are limiting the minimum weight and switching to “mono tires,” which is also intended to ensure fairer competition and close, spectacular races. Dmitry Dobrovolsky
More detailed information about all the requirements and features of the championship can be found in the regulatory documents of RDS EUROPE 2024, which are published on the website.
