The Italian design studio Pininfarina prepared a spectacular Enigma GT concept for the Geneva Motor Show, but it did not come to the exhibition itself and so far only exists in the form of renderings.
Since 2015, the Pininfarina studio has been owned by the Indian company Mahindra & Mahindra. At the instigation of the Indian authorities, the automobile company Automobili Pininfarina was created on the basis of the studio in 2018; it is engaged in the development and production of luxury electric vehicles. Pininfarina's debut model as an automaker was the electric supercar Battista, it was created on the platform of the Croatian company Rimac and is, in fact, a derivative of the supercar Rimac Nevera. Introduced last year, the Pininfarina B95 barchetta is in turn a derivative of the Battista. There are no other production new products yet, although there were big plans at the start: Pininfarina was supposed to become something like a modern Lotus Cars company with a fairly wide range of electric cars, including a sedan and a crossover.
Alas, so far the attempt to diversify the business has not been very successful: the previously promised projects have not seen the light of day, Automobili Pininfarina does not have a clear development plan, and the studio of the same name continues to fulfill third-party orders and make one-piece concepts and prototypes. Last year, the Italians made a rather spectacular conceptual electric crossover, the Pura Vision, but did not outline its commercial prospects. The Enigma GT hybrid coupe, virtually presented yesterday, also does not have them — for now this is just another attempt to look into the future and find your place in it.
Last year, as you know, the global auto industry was faced with a slowdown in demand for electric vehicles, many companies, including General Motors and Mercedes-Benz, returned to developing hybrid models — so the new Pininfarina concept received a hybrid power plant: located behind the cabin 2, 5-liter hydrogen turbo V6 engine with 442 hp. rotates the rear wheels (obviously through a gearbox, but nothing is said about it in the press release), and an electric motor with a power of 272 hp is installed on the front axle. The capacity of the traction battery is 10 kWh, the fuel tank holds 9 kg of hydrogen, the range on one charge/refueling is about 550 km. A coupe weighing 1690 kg accelerates to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds, top speed is limited to 250 km/h.

By the way, Pininfarina did not turn to the topic of hydrogen internal combustion engines out of nowhere — one of its clients as a design studio is the French startup NamX, which plans to launch a crossover with a hydrogen V8 in 2026.

Overall length of Pininfarina Enigma GT — 4580 mm, width — 1950 mm, height — 1230 mm, wheelbase — 2880 mm . The body is made of carbon fiber and has active aerodynamic elements. With its wedge-shaped silhouette and large lift-up hood, the Enigma GT is reminiscent of last year's Polestar Synergy concept. The cabin has a 2+2 seating formula and is divided into two symmetrical parts by a high central tunnel.
Whether Pininfarina will build a working prototype of the Enigma GT remains to be seen — it hardly makes sense unless there is a clear intention to turn the Enigma GT into a production model.
