The British manufacturer of luxury sports cars is going to release several plug-in hybrids in the next couple of years.
Aston Martin over the past few years has been in a state of permanent restructuring; we talked about this in more detail last fall. It is not surprising that the manufacturer’s plans change under the influence of various external factors. As reported late last year, the company is thinking about canceling the Vanquish mid-engine sports car project. Now it has become known about the next changes that are associated with the “electric trains” of the brand.

The fact that Aston Martin's plans for the next few years have undergone adjustments is reported by Autocar, citing the company's chairman Lawrence Stroll. He, in particular, noted that the company is postponing the debut of its first electric car from 2025 to 2026. He explained this decision by the fact that consumer demand for “green” models is not as high as the company expected a couple of years ago as part of the development of the project. “Consumer demand is not growing at the rate that analysts and policymakers thought,” added Lawrence Stroll.
Recall that Aston Martin's first electric car should be an all-wheel drive crossover, which will be based on the British manufacturer's development platform, which will combine Mercedes electronics -Benz with Lucid hardware (both companies are partners of Aston Martin). According to preliminary data, this electric platform will receive up to four motors (one per wheel), the total power of this installation can exceed 1500 hp.

As it became known earlier, a grant from the non-profit organization APC (Advanced Propulsion Center), funded by the British government, in the amount of 9 million pounds sterling, was also spent on the development of this “trolley”. At the same time, it was reported that, according to the strategy, the entire brand line should be fully electrified by 2030 (it will only contain electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids).

According to Lawrence Stroll, for now the company has decided to focus on developing models with PHEV installations. The publication noted that the closest plug-in hybrid will be the mid-engine sports car Valhalla, which is equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine from Mercedes-AMG, working in tandem with two electric motors. The total output is 950 hp, the maximum torque is 1000 Nm. The range when driving purely on electric power is a modest 15 km. Sales of this supercar will begin in the last quarter of this year.

More , according to the British publication, Aston Martin decided to “kill” the Lagonda project. Let us remind you that we are talking about the release of luxury models — super sedan and SUV — under a separate sub-brand; they were expected to become all-electric competitors to Bentley brand cars.
The project died down after the departure of CEO Andy Palmer, and now the chairman of the company has said that Aston Martin has no plans to introduce it to the luxury market cars. “We believe that our sports cars and SUVs are quite luxurious, so we do not intend to produce luxury cars that are less powerful,” added Lawrence Stroll.
