George Galloway, an ardent socialist and champion of the poor, drove into Rochdale Suzuki and set up his soap box next to a matching red Mercedes coupe.
“We defeated the Labor Party by a margin of 10,000 votes,” he roared to the applause of his crowd of supporters. as a black Mercedes 4X4 glowed in the background. A few minutes before his arrival, at 3:30 a.m., a blue Lamborghini pulled up outside a car showroom in an industrial area near the city center.
It was the most incongruous setting as Galloway protested Rochdale's descent into poverty while in surrounded by the attributes of automotive luxury.
He arrived hand in hand with Putri Gayatri Pertiwi, his fourth wife and Dutch-Indonesian anthropologist, the couple raising their clasped hands in celebration.
She dressed appropriately for the occasion: red ankle boots, black skinny jeans and brightly colored a green top embodying the colors of the Palestinian flag.

The 69-year-old man is surrounded by dozens of cheering supporters. The old Scot then made a typically profound speech that echoed throughout the open space.
Celebrating his victory over Labor and the Tories, he claimed to be the originator of the phrase «two cheeks of one ass» before adding: » And that ass got spanked.”
He was in even more fighting shape when he was ambushed by a BBC Newsnight crew shortly afterwards.
Practically leaning against a red Mercedes, he repeatedly asked Nick Watt, the programme's political editor, to «cry more». about the result.
With those words, Mr. Galloway, dressed in a black and red striped tie and signature fedora, swept through the showroom and backstage into the workshop.
Following his departure, the ugly side of his campaign reared its head when a supporter brought in a giant poster of Sir Keir Starmer's head. The words “Starmer for Genocide” were emblazoned on his forehead, and the Labor leader was depicted crying black tears and wearing fang-shaped incisors.
