President of the Ekaterinburg football club “Ural” Grigory Ivanov said that he would not like to discuss the future of the team’s midfielder Rai Vlut until the player’s appeal against the Dutch court’s decision on the tragic accident with his participation and the imposed sentence of 2.5 years in prison are considered.
The head of the Russian Premier League (RPL), Alexander Alaev, told reporters on Sunday that the league is in contact with the management of Spartak Moscow regarding the case of striker Quincy Promes. The President of the RPL said that if a football player has a punishment, then he should not play in the league. Vlut was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison in the spring of 2023. The football player was found guilty of an accident that occurred in November 2021 and claimed the life of a four-year-old boy.
“Alexander Aleksandrovich Alaev said that this is his opinion and that they (the convicted) have no place in the RPL. My opinion: until the court finally decides that our football player should be convicted, and until all appeals are completed, he will not play in our team. And if the court has not yet decided and there are appeals, he cannot be called a criminal. I don’t want to talk about the situation with Promes, this is not my business, this is the business of Spartak Moscow. I can say this about Vlut – if after the appeal the court finds him guilty, then we will look at what to do next and how to terminate the contract with him,” Ivanov said.

On Friday, Promes was detained in the UAE for a local offense. In 2020, in the port of Antwerp, police intercepted two shipments of narcotic substances with a total weight of about 1,370 kilograms, which, according to investigators, belonged to Promes. In February in the Netherlands, the football player was sentenced to six years in prison in a drug smuggling case.
