Crossover Forthing T5 from Dongfeng: details about the Russian version

On the Russian market, a Chinese SUV the size of a Toyota RAV4 will be available with a non-alternative 1.5 turbo engine and a classic automatic. Sales are expected to begin in the coming months.

The Forthing brand, which belongs to the Dongfeng concern, began full-scale development of the Russian market last year; its distributor is Ixen Motors Rus. Now the range includes the T5 Evo SUV, Yacht and M7 vans. And soon another crossover will be added to the Forthing line – just T5, without the “surname” Evo. By the way, at the end of February, the Kaliningrad Avtotor plant officially announced preparations for the assembly of brand models (T5, T5 Evo and Yacht), the start of mass production was scheduled for March. However, since then there have been no releases about local production, and the current distributor’s message does not mention local assembly either. It is possible that they will talk about this later.

The length of the Forthing T5 intended for Russia is 4545 mm, width – 1825 mm, height – 1750 mm, wheelbase – 2720 mm. Thus, in terms of its dimensions, the “Chinese” is not far from our deceased Toyota RAV4. The Forthing T5 has McPherson struts at the front and a multi-link at the rear. The crossover has all-round disc brakes.

The crossover will be offered with a 1.5 petrol turbo-four, which, according to the distributor, is made “based on Mitsubishi technologies.” On our T5 the engine produces 144 hp. and 215 Nm, it can “power” AI-92. The engine is paired with a classic six-speed automatic transmission. No word yet about all-wheel drive. Although, for example, the Forthing T5 Evo acquired an all-wheel drive option especially for Russia.

“Simple” The T5 is promised a Russified multimedia system with a large touchscreen, a standard video recorder, a rear view camera, a keyless entry system and an engine start button, a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, front and side airbags, a stability control system, rear parking sensors and cruise control.

Forthing T5 will go on sale in the coming months, no prices yet. The T5 Evo price now starts from 3,080,000 rubles (excluding shares).
