It is known that the crossover will debut as a concept at the Beijing Motor Show, which starts at the end of this month.
< p>Initially, the smart brand was founded by the German concern Daimler (now Mercedes-Benz Group). However, now the celestial holding Geely is responsible for the development of cars of this brand, while the Germans are engaged in design. Today, the main market for the smart brand is China, but smart does not forget about Europe: here it continues to fight for customers with Mini. It is not surprising that smart decided to show one of the previously announced new products at the Beijing Motor Show.
Announcement of smart #5
The brand's current lineup includes two completely “green” models. Thus, the role of the first-born smart after the “relaunch” was played by the subcompact SUV smart #1; it was presented in April 2022. Next came the larger smart #3 crossover with a coupe-like body. These SUVs are based on the SEA modular platform developed by Geely.
Sketches of the smart crossover concept #5 < p>Earlier it became known that the line would be replenished with several more new products – smart #2, smart #4 and smart #5. Now the company has officially announced the last of the listed models. It is known that the smart #5 crossover will debut at the Beijing Motor Show, although for now it is in concept status. It is expected that the production model of the “five” will become the largest in the current line of the brand; it is known that its length will exceed 4 meters.
It is known that smart #5 will take a place in the segment of mid-size premium crossovers. According to the company's plan, mass production of the model will begin in the second half of this year. So far, the company has accompanied the announcement with several official sketches depicting the concept SUV.
The images show a crossover with more “squared” shapes compared to smart #1 and smart #3. The depicted new product has a very respectable ground clearance, large wheels, extended wheel arches with plastic linings on them, as well as an almost vertical tailgate, on the top of which there is a spoiler. At the stern you can also see the lights, which are connected to each other by a jumper, and above is the brand name.
Judging by the sketches, the profile of the concept with short lights will be decorated with original rims, and an unusual one will be placed on the roof trunk, the lower part of the rear bumper could get a massive diffuser, and at the front there will likely be an “aggressive”-looking element with an integrated air intake. From the interior, only the chairs are shown, the design of which was inspired by… donuts.
There is no official data on the “filling” of the future new product yet. It is expected that it will be based on the already mentioned SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform. In this case, the SUV will share the car with the Volvo EX30 and Zeekr X. According to preliminary data, smart #5 will receive an 800-volt architecture; it will likely have versions with a single electric motor on the rear axle and a dual-motor powertrain. It is expected that the new product will be able to compete for customers with the BMW iX1.
