MOSCOW, April 26 The Russian military has created an unusual, but very effective device to protect tanks from drones, said German journalist Julian Röpke in a report for Bild.
“These vehicles, which were initially laughed at, turned out to be T-72 tanks. <…> On the outside they have huge armor (the vehicles are completely covered with iron sheets. — Ed.), so strong that Ukrainian FPV drones do not have the slightest chance of breaking through it,” he noted.
Repke also emphasized that such unusual armor is complemented by electronic warfare systems installed directly on the tank. He added that electronic warfare systems do not allow enemy drones close to the tank, and their effectiveness is confirmed by the Ukrainian military.
In October last year, a serial standardized anti-drone canopy over the turret was developed for Russian tanks in the Northern Military District zone , which tankers previously made on their own from scrap materials and called a “visor” or “barbecue.” The Rostec state corporation confirmed that a factory canopy was created to protect the roofs of T-72B3 tanks, adding that “this simple but effective solution was suggested by the experience of the Northern Military District.”
