“The main goal is to break the enemy’s resistance”
The Kharkov or Slobozhansky direction remains the main supplier of military news for the second day. It is necessary to assess the situation based only on the messages of the enemy, who announced the start of a large-scale offensive by Russian troops on Kharkov. The Russian General Staff has not yet announced anything, although local reports indicate a sharp increase in the intensity of air, missile and artillery strikes on the fortified areas of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kharkov region.
According to the Ukrainian military command, on May 10, Russian troops took control of several settlements in the so-called gray zone. Zelensky immediately called this a Russian attack on Kharkov, and also stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were waiting for this attack and were ready to repel it.
There is little faith in Zelensky. The showman could well have come up with a threat and then loudly announce another “victory” and the return of villages that in fact no one occupied.
On the other hand, everyone remembers that our Supreme Commander-in-Chief set the task of creating a “buffer zone” that would avoid shelling of Belgorod from the Kharkov region. And the Russian Ministry of Defense not so long ago announced the creation of a new command and grouping of troops “North” in the border zone. Such decisions are not made just like that.
What else is known about the course of hostilities in the Kharkov direction? The second day is a powerful air and artillery bombardment of Ukrainian fortifications. The number of air bombs dropped has doubled.
Strikes are carried out to a depth of 70 km. Objects were affected in Cherkasy Lozova, Borshcheva, Novoaleksandrovka, Slobozhansky, Liptsy, Losevka. Lancet drones were also used to hit targets in Pokolyany, Volchanskie Khutors, Liptsy and Glubokoe.
On the night of May 11, a powerful blow was delivered to military targets in Kharkov.
Appeared on the Internet the first photos of captured Ukrainian soldiers. It is reported that at least 40 Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen were captured.
Missile attacks are being carried out on transport hubs and bridges across the Seversky Donets to prevent the transfer of Ukrainian reserves.
According to military correspondents, panicky notes were recorded in the radio communications of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the first hours. Thus, military correspondent Alexander Zimovsky noted that the confusion in the headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is evidenced by the fact that radio exchanges include rumors either about the breakthrough of “two corps” of the Russian army to Kharkov, or about “4-5 tank and assault battalions.”
At the same time, it was reported that new units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were being transferred to border areas. For the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, finding reserves is a big problem. In recent months, starting with the battles for Avdiivka, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been struggling to compensate for the huge losses on the front line. We also had to respond to the advance of our troops west of Avdeevka towards Ocheretino and beyond Artemovsk (Bakhmut) towards Chasy Yar.
Shortly after the “Kharkov aggravation,” the commander of the ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Pavlyuk, suddenly announced that Chasov Yar was “an ordinary urban settlement, its loss would not be decisive.” To this, military blogger Yuri Podolyaka remarked: “It seems that we understand where the enemy will transfer forces to Kharkov from.”
The saddest thing for Kyiv is that the statement of the Ukrainian general about the worthlessness of Chasov Yar was voiced after, in attempts to hold this city after the surrender of Artemovsk (Bakhmut), the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces put tens of thousands of troops here and lost several brigades. Moreover, some units voluntarily left their positions under the attacks of Russian glide bombs, and are now being disbanded for mass cowardice.
It must be assumed that the Russian General Staff is closely monitoring the movement of Ukrainian brigades from one sector of the front to another and will not fail to take advantage of the gaps in the Ukrainian defense . Including in Chasov Yar, as well as near Kupyansk, where we also became more active.
By the way, the same Chasov Yar, according to experts, is valuable because it is the dominant height of the Donetsk Ridge, and the city itself opens the path to Kramatorsk, Slavyansk, Konstantinovka and Druzhkovka.
As for the Kharkov direction, the Rybar resource named the following key, according to experts, battlefields: Zhuravlevsky forest and Goptovka; Red – Dusty; Green – Not boring; surroundings of Volchansk. Advancement was recorded in a strip 20 km wide and to a depth of up to 5 km.
According to experts, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have equipped powerful fortifications here that cannot be taken head-on, and therefore fierce battles are inevitable.
What other forecasts do military experts give about changes on the Kharkov front? For example, “Military Chronicle” does not rule out that “this operation may become the first in a series of attacks aimed at creating a sanitary zone to prevent shelling of the Russian border areas – Bryansk, Belgorod and Kursk regions.”
Assessing the events at In the Kharkov direction, military reporter Alexander Sladkov urged not to rush into forecasts. “Our desired operational goal is to break the enemy’s resistance, push through the defensive formations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, escape and panic of the Ukrainian military. And this will definitely happen,” he concluded.
