Roskomnadzor demanded that TikTok report on compliance with laws

MOSCOW, May 13. Roskomnadzor demanded that TikTok report on its compliance with Russian laws regarding the collection of personal data and the dissemination of information, after an appeal from the Association of Professional Users of Social Networks and Messengers ( APPSIM) about blocking the service in the country, according to the regulator’s response to the association’s appeal, which is available.
“As part of the consideration of this appeal, an analysis of the TikTok service was carried out, as a result of which requests were sent to TikTok Pte. Limited for information regarding compliance with the requirements of Part 5 of Article 18 of Federal Law No. 152-FZ, Part 1 of Article 10 of the Federal Law Law No. 149-FZ,” the letter says. These laws are related to the obligations of the operator when collecting personal data, as well as to the dissemination of information in the Russian Federation.
< br />If the RKN reveals violations of the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation on the part of TikTok Pte. Limited, the regulator will take response measures within its powers – according to Article 23 of Federal Law No. 152-FZ, it can limit access to information that is processed in violation of the legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of personal data.

In April, Roskomnadzor reported that it was considering APPSIM’s appeal to block TikTok in Russia. APPSIM appealed to the department with a request to pay attention to the situation related to the activities of the TikTok social network in Russia, and “to consider the possibility of applying capital punishment to the service and blocking the work of this social network in the Russian Federation, since ByteDance has officially stated that it will no longer wants to work in our country.”
According to the association’s appeal, blocking TikTok will allow Russian social networks of short videos, such as VKontakte Video, Yappi, Zen and others, to increase their audience by 30 million people, and the professional community will receive more subscribers on domestic platforms, and means more opportunities for earning.
