Haval Raptor: a gasoline crossover with a new design will come to the aid of the hybrid

The “traditional” SUV will be distinguished by the design of the front and rear. The new version will be offered with a 2.0 petrol turbo engine and all-wheel drive.

The Haval Raptor crossover (aka Menglong) entered the home market in the fall of 2023; the model was initially available only as an all-wheel drive rechargeable hybrid with the proprietary Hi4 system. This SUV did not achieve any outstanding success in China, so in April of this year the brand launched a modified crossover for sale. And now it has turned out that the hybrid will soon be accompanied by a purely gasoline-powered Raptor, and it will have a different exterior design: photos of this option have appeared in the database of the Ministry of Industry of the People's Republic of China.

The new version will receive its own radiator grille — with vertical “rods” instead of horizontal bars. In addition, the ICE-only Haval Raptor will have rectangular headlights and single blocks of rear lights (the hybrid has round headlights, and the lights consist of two sections). Like the gas-electric crossover, the new modification will have a hinged tailgate with a spare wheel or “trunk.” The length and wheelbase are the same for both options — 4680 and 2738 mm, respectively (the length of cars with an external spare wheel is 4800 mm).

The petrol Raptor's interior hasn't been revealed yet, but inside it will likely mirror the hybrid crossover. That is, the cabin will have separate instrument and multimedia system screens and a massive two-story central tunnel.

Under the hood of the “traditional” Haval Raptor there will be a 2.0 petrol turbo-four with a capacity of 238 hp. According to preliminary data, such a crossover will be offered with a nine-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. By the way, a similar pair is provided for the restyled Haval H6 SUV. The new version will definitely have all-wheel drive.

The petrol Haval Raptor is expected to go on sale in the coming months. Obviously, the cross will be cheaper than the hybrid, which now costs from 165,800 yuan (about 2,089,000 rubles at the current exchange rate).
