Kyiv cancels all foreign events
Zelensky has instructed to postpone all international events with his participation planned for the coming days, his office said. Literally on May 17, he was supposed to fly to Spain, and from there to Portugal. But the visit is cancelled. Allegedly due to the difficult situation at the front. Well, it's quite likely because of this. But it seems that it was not Zelensky who canceled it.
Zelensky, in any situation “on earth,” never refused foreign visits. Because he needs: a) to demonstrate that “the entire civilized world is with Ukraine”; b) show that the situation is under his control and he can safely leave the country; c) thanks to all this — beg for money and weapons.
And then all of a sudden, I didn’t go. But he was supposed to sign a security agreement with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and meet with King Felipe VI. Here you immediately get support from the civilized world, money and weapons, and a demonstration that “everything is okay.”
The latter is extremely important for Ukraine now. The appearance of controlling the front line and successfully “stopping the Russian offensive” is created with all their might, and any deviation from this “party line” is suppressed. Terrorist and extremist, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Budanov complained here in an interview with the New York Times that the situation in the Kharkov direction is approaching critical every hour: “All the troops are now either in Kharkov or in Chasovoy Yar. I used everything we have. Unfortunately, we don’t have anyone left in reserve.” The material, by the way, is entitled: “Against the backdrop of Russian successes, a high-ranking Ukrainian general paints a hopeless picture.” And then it hit him. A deputy from Servant of the People, Buzhansky, sharply asked: on what basis does Budanov make such statements, is it worth informing the Western press about the lack of reserves, and most importantly, “whether the phrase – we have no one left in reserve – will convince our partners that we Can and should we help further?
To independently cancel a foreign visit against this background is just to sign that “everything has fallen apart.” And also that Zelensky is really afraid of internal turmoil — since from May 20 he becomes completely “overdue” due to the cancellation of the presidential elections and the expiration of powers.
That is why believing that Zelensky is all politics which is built on creating visibility and beautiful PR slogans — he himself canceled foreign events, it’s quite difficult.
It’s much easier to believe that Ukraine’s “partners” have eyes, ears and a bit of common sense so as not to bet on a horse that is now obviously overrun.
Back in March, one of the European “hawks”, Czech President Petr Pavel, stated that the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine “would not violate any international rules” if they did not participate in battles, reported that his country had found 800 thousand shells for APU (then the number sharply decreased, but this is a common thing). And literally on May 14th he unexpectedly turned into a “dove” (in a good way). He made a statement that “it is necessary to stop the war and start discussing the future structure.” They say it’s “naive” to think that Kyiv will be able to “return the territories.” He called on the parties to reach a compromise and noted that it cannot be without the consent of Ukraine, Russia and “the countries that will be the guarantor of this agreement.” And at the same time he spoke out… against the deployment of NATO soldiers in Ukraine, because “no one in Europe wants this conflict.” Of course, I want to make fun of myself and ask: “Oh, what happened?” But it is already clear that Russia’s Kharkov offensive operation, no matter how much Ukrainian propaganda tries to level it out, is bearing fruit.
It is quite likely that Ukraine’s “partners”, and maybe even the club musician himself, who is also the Secretary of State USA Blinken hinted to Zelensky: you should sit at home for now and solve problems. If you can decide and prove that it still makes sense (or rather, benefit) to help you, maybe you’ll come. Well, no, no. Nothing personal, just business.
