A student who appeared at an event with Sir Keir Starmer promoting work education policies was at a fee-paying school, it turns out.

Tito Molokwu, a master's student at the London School of Economics, praised Sir Keir for the platform, which includes the introduction of VAT on independent study fees.

But Guido Fox's website reported that Ms Molokwu attended St Margaret's Hampstead school in north London. where students are charged up to £6,254 per term.

She is also listed on the school's website as one of its notable alumni after the magazine named her as one of the UK's top 150 African and African students.

Speaking at an event in Thurrock, Essex, Ms Molokwu recalled her time at Queen Elizabeth Girls' School in Barnet, a non-selective academy, but did not mention her time at St Margaret's.

“One Today I want to be part of a Labor government for everyone, regardless of their class, race or gender,” she said.

“Teachers are the backbone of our society. I will always remember my form teacher and Year 10 English teacher at Queen Elizabeth School for Girls in Barnet…”

    Full Attention

“[She] gave each student her full attention, treating each student as uniquely gifted and worthy of achieving their dreams.”

Ms Molokwu said she was particularly inspired by her mentor's performance of Labi Siffra's 1987 song (Something Inside) So Strong.

She then quoted the words: “Brothers and sisters, when they insist that we're just not good enough, we know better – just look him in the eye and say, 'We'll do it anyway.'”

Ms Molokwu concluded that she “hopes” the Labor government will “transform our country's schools so that all children have access to opportunity.”

The Labor Party has strongly defended its policy of scrapping tax breaks for independent schools, despite analysis from the Adam Smith Institute that it could cost the Treasury up to £1.6 billion a year.

Ms Moloku's LinkedIn profile reveals that she was previously interned by David Lammy, the shadow foreign secretary, and was also keeping an eye on Anneliese Dodds, the chair of the Labor Party.

The Labor Party declined to comment.
